Strong communication is underpinned by the need to be a good, active listener. I pride myself on taking the time to make sure I have all the facts, ask questions and speak thoughtfully to the room.
I consistently demonstrate an effective, warm verbal communication style both in internal and external meetings, whilst participating in talks or panels as a representative of my workplace, hosting events and workshops, and so on.
Speaking in public is still something that induces nerves, however I'm really proud to see how much I've grown through my work at LSA and Into Film. Ultimately, it is the conviction that I have in the subject matter that helps me lead a conversation.
The content planning skills I've been able to learn through building the LSA website has ensured LSA.ac.uk holds information that is accurate, relevant and informative.
At Into Film, I am responsible for building campaign pages - most of this content is written by an external copywriter and this goes through at least two rounds of amends - each round is checked first by me and then by our client.
I've steered the dramatic refresh of the Industry page on the Into Film website, making suggestions for what should be included and where, curating key statistics and ensuring the reader knew exactly which section of the page was relevant to them and how they could be involved in our work.
The biggest challenge I faced in setting up and running Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In and TikTok for LSA was understanding what 'our' voice was. With each photo, video, story and live stream came the opportunity to tell our story - the collective voice of LSA.
From clever one-liner captions primarily targeting young people on Instagram and TikTok, to informative, insightful Linked In articles that aimed to inspire industry support, I developed an ease for leading the conversation online.
I am thrilled to be leading the revival of Into Film's Linked In account in my current role. I have championed the platform as a way to further elevate my organisation's profile within the industry and I am pleased to hear how impactful this has been so far from my seniors.
I emulate my 'in person' persona as much as I can over emails. I keep it professional and concise whilst also being warm and friendly. There are some contacts or colleagues we may only ever meet through emails and it's important to me to build that rapport with my connections.
In my wide-ranging role at LSA, I also managed the general enquiries mailbox as well as the admissions mailbox. With both inboxes, I handled sensitive information sensibly and answered queries in good time with a high quality of service that ensured everyone contacting LSA knew they were important and being looked after.
I know my audience and what's important to them; I understand how much time they'll have to read a newsletter and I know how often they want to be contacted. I led the creation and publishing of three weekly newsletters for staff, students and parents/guardians at LSA. My role involved both creating and collating content, quality assuring any media, designing, testing and publishing! I am proud to have kept our LSA community in the loop through these newsletters, especially during the pandemic..
